The Molet house is located between Koper and Izola, in the Molet area. It is an exceptional location, which, due to the steep terrain, allows most of the houses to have a view of the sea. The challenge of the area is the orientation, as the view towards the sea is directed to the north, and the sun rises a little later and sets earlier, because of the hill behind the houses. For this reason, we did real-time studies of sunlight and views while designing the house.
The house extends from the basement, where there is a garage with storage, through the ground floor, where there are bedrooms, to the first floor, where the kitchen, dining room and living room are located. All floors are also connected to each other by an elevator.
The special feature of the house is the atrium, through which the rooms on the ground floor receive natural light. Thanks to the atrium, it is also possible to divide the house into two apartments in the future, as it is also possible to provide separate entrances through it.
Despite its modern floorplans and large glass surfaces, the house relies on local design elements and materials. The facade is made of thick-layer plaster with admixtures of local soil; the large single-pitched roof is made of corrugated roof tiles in fiber cement, which reinterprets the typical clay roof tiles that were used traditionally. The roof continues over the atrium, creating a canopy over the outdoor living areas. Through the hole in the roof, light is provided both in the atrium and in the living rooms on the upper floor.
