The renovation of a small hostel in the historical center of Koper was a big challenge for us. The client wanted a hostel requiring the least maintenance yet would still remain cosy and comfortable; a design that would be fresh and modern, but respect the historical context and local elements.
We chose to use metal structures combined with oak wood for almost all the furniture. We chose the metal structures due to its durability and resistance to damage, and the oak wood due to its warmth and tactile properties.
The rooms are divided into two categories; the first uses bunk beds, while the second uses two single beds that can be easily combined into one double bed.
For the flooring, we used Ceppo di Gre, an ornamental stone of gray color, extracted from the village of Gre. This reinterpretation of the classic stone, which appears in various colors, gives a playful and youthful note to the interior.
