House A is located in Ankaran, a small Slovenian town located on the southern coast of the Muggia peninsula, right next to the border with Italy.
Our task was to transform the existing house and its aging exterior into modern accommodation for tourists and regular tenants. The investor gave us free rein with the floor plan design, the number of units, communications and connections, etc.
After several attempts, it turned out that due to the shape of the existing house and the investor's desire for a higher-level design, it was most appropriate to design only one apartment, which in the outer part is complemented by a summer kitchen, fireplace, outdoor pool and sunbathing terrace.
The accommodation is designed in such a way that all the rooms are arranged around a central cube, which, in addition to the kitchen, houses all the service rooms: utilities and two bathrooms.
In the corridors formed around the cube, there is a wardrobe on the north-east side, and a corner for relaxation and reading on the south-west side.
The living room with dining room and kitchen are oriented towards the pool. The modular sofa is designed in such a way that it allows views in three directions: towards the TV, towards the outside or towards the fireplace.
On the opposite side of the cube is the sleeping area, which consists of two identical bedrooms with a wardrobe and desk, and a smaller studio-home office that can be converted into an additional bedroom.
Materially, the central cube, which is covered in wood, stands out the most. The kitchen part is complemented by stainless steel, both on the counter and on the kitchen island. Natural stone cladding appears next to the fireplace and in the bathroom. The floor is entirely made of microtopping, except in the bedrooms, where we used parquet.
The space is very spacious and bright, and in addition to the views through the large openings, it also offers views of the artworks inside. The lighting is also designed accordingly, highlighting all the important elements in an almost gallery-like manner.
