The Z house is a stone house in the dense old city centre, caught between two other houses with which it shares load-bearing walls. The client wanted to demolish the old house and build a new one. Our goal was to preserve the remaining common stone walls and recreate the visible wooden roof. All other elements are subordinated to the existing ones and follow the feeling of the old town hall with a modern touch.
The house consists of a ground floor and three additional floors, the last under a visible roof. There are two apartments in the house. Common and service areas are located on the ground floor, the first apartment is on the first floor and the second one is on the upper two floors. Due to their age, the clients requested the installation of a smaller elevator in the house.
In our studio, we took care of the design of the entire house with all common areas and the two apartments, but we also designed the equipment and detailed plans for the upper one. Due to the visible roof and the possibility of creating a balcony on the third floor, we placed the living area on top of the house. The bedrooms and other utility rooms are on the floor below.
Materially, the house is very clean and there is a lot of visible wood and whitewashed stone walls. The floor is made of polyurethane, the low wall coverings and part of the equipment are made of polished concrete, while the shelves and firewood rack are partly made of powder-coated white metal. The windowsills are made of bush hammered stone, the windows are wooden, and the wall coverings in the kitchen and bathrooms are made of vertical ceramic tiles.
