Museum square represents a new and existing open public space in the historical part of Koper since it consists of two connected open public spaces.
The first one is the historical Tacco square, located next to the baroque palace of the Koper Regional Museum. The second one is much bigger and it never existed in this part of a historical town. This new part of the square is a finishing part of another project - the new parking garage beneath it, whereas square Tacco is in need of renovation.
The two parts are both visually and spatially connected and divided. We further emphasized this division by setting line of long concrete benches, a line of threes that goes crosswise from an existing three and a differentiation in the pavement.
Furthermore we connected the two parts on the dominant axe that goes from the Regional Museum towards the sea. Left and right of the axe we put an abundance of trees on two lifted platforms, as well as a number of trees in pots at the northwest part of Museum square. This way we delimited the new open space into a new square surrounded by a new park. On the platforms we conveniently hidden all the existant parking entrance/exit objects and provided many seating options, water features and a great shade.
The shade is throughout all square provided also by new urban furniture - pergolas above bicycle parking spots and pergolas above existing bars, restaurants.
The history of the space is marked in paving of the square, but also in a water feature with the maquette of historical Koper located in a part of square Tacco. One can inform himself better on the history of the location with the help of information boards located on parking entrance/exits objects.
Square Tacco is paved in logic and material of Kidriceva street that pass over it. The square is slightly tilted from Koper Regional Museum towards new Museum square. Its limits are subtly marked by a thin line of white local stone in a shape of a rectangle. The new Museum square is also paved in local grey and white stone, but in shapes and details that willingly reveal different period of origin.
