In the past, the Obzidna house was located on the outskirts of the city of Koper. Now it is part of the old city center with its large garden next to the house.
The client comes to us with the desire to renovate the house, which would be divided into a studio apartment and a larger apartment. It is not yet known who will be the user of the studio, but the larger apartment will be the customers new home. The wishes in this part of the house were therefore more specific.
They wanted the living space to connect the kitchen, dining room and living room, have lots of light and access to the terrace. The bedroom must contain an additional work surface and wardrobe. The client has a need for a multi-purpose space for various, changing hobbies, which allows the apartment to be supplemented with an additional room at a later date. There was a desire to place a bathtub in the bathroom, as it represents a place where they can relax. The front door is located opposite the entrance to the garden, so it was important that the ground floor also serves the needs of the garden.
The material references sent indicated terrazzo or stone floors, a sufficient amount of wood and the placement of soft color tones in the interior.
The greater specialty of coordinating wishes was precisely in the living area due to the elongated shape of the room and the need to preserve daylight throughout the entire space. Despite the fact that the rooms are connected, they had to be visually shortened, which we managed to achieve with lintels. We then emphasized the heights of the lintels with furniture placed directly below them.
Special features of the design in this room are the internal shutters and the shape of the table. Despite the more difficult accessibility of the external shutters because of the furniture placed under the windows, the internal shutters make it possible to darken the room when needed.
The square dining table breaks the feeling of a narrow corridor on the way to the kitchen and allows a circular route, which makes the usage of the table more comfortable.
The studio apartment on the ground floor also presented a challenge in its own way because of the length of the room. In addition, it is not yet clear who will live there. Therefore, we have tried to provide the needs for all possible scenarios, so the studio apartment could be a tourist apartment, a student apartment with a large working desk, and it also provides the possibility for a long-term living with a lot of storage space and a separate entrance hall.
