The penthouse is situated in the small town of Icici, near Opatija. It sits at the top of a residential building that is situated just above the large marina and the Icici beach. Thanks to its position, the penthouse gives an amazing 180° view over the Kvarner Gulf and the islands of Kvarner.

The location, orientation and view are undoubtedly of great quality although the building itself does not match those qualities, especially the penthouse. Its floor plan was overrun by airshafts and chimneys from the lower levels, and the terrace was formed as a half octagon, while the glazing followed this form for no obvious reason.

We wanted to create a space of refined looks - bright and spacious - where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape from a place that is merely an extension of it.

We tried to solve the problem of the terrace simply by substituting the existing fence with a new one, made entirely from glass. In this way, the focus would move from the terrace to the panoramic view in front of it. In addition, we designed the interior to envelop all the disturbing verticals from the lower levels.

Besides a clear and functional floor plan, we wanted to create a modern yet obviously Mediterranean space. The white Carrara marble used for the flooring and for some furniture coverings reflects the light and makes the space even bigger and brighter. Vice versa, the darker walnut veneer, the black chairs and pendant lights bring stability and separation between different functions, while spaces become almost intuitive, without the need for walls or doors.
